About LIMS

LIMS-Photo-3thumbLong Island Muslim Society (LIMS) is a not for profit religious, educational and, charitable organization. It is incorporated in the state of New York under section 501(c) of the IRS code.

The Society has established an Islamic Center at 475 East Meadow Ave, East Meadow, New York to serve the religious, educational and cultural needs of a vibrant long island community.

LIMS provides Information, consultation and counseling on religious and spiritual matters.

LIMS promotes understanding and friendship among people of all faith through its’year round interfaith programs

LIMS partners with other organizations in providing humanitarian services to people with special needs.

LIMS Milestones

1989
LIMS incorporated as a 501(c) not for profit religious organization on August 4 1989.Three signatories: Monir Uddin Ahmed R. Ph, Lutful Hoque Chowdhury R. Ph.,
Rafiqul Islam R. Ph.

1990
April 26 1990, Interim LIMS Executive Committee formed. A Constitution & Byelaws Committee was formed to prepare the governing rules for the organization.

December 9 1990, LIMS constitution & Bye laws adopted. An elected executive committee and a president take oath.

1991
LIMS starts weekend Quran classes in a rental property at Hempstead Turnpike on June 9 1991.

1993
LIMS purchases the first house on the East Meadow Avenue in December 1993 and moves all activities to this location.

1999
LIMS purchases the second house next to the first house in the month of July 1999.

2008
Construction for a new Islamic Center started in 2008 and completed in 2009.

2012
LIMS purchases the third house in the month of June 2012.and builds a parking lot on the property for the Center.

Activities At A Glance

LIMS provides programs for adults and children to help us learn to lead our lives spiritually and functionally as Muslims. In order to accomplish this, the following are our present activities:

  • Daily 5 Prayers
  • Friday Jummah Prayer
  • Weekly Children and Adult educational programs
  • Participation in Inter-faith dialogue and events.
  • Partnership with the Long Island local churches, synagogues, local charities and Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) to donate food to feed the hungry.
  • Support Kiwanis Club of East Meadow for distribution of food during the Thanksgiving holiday.
  • Provide Annual Blood Drive
  • Clothes and blanket donation to poor and needy during winter.
  • School Supplies to needy communities.
  • Monetary donations to Refugees around the world.
  • Financial Aid workshop for HS Seniors
  • Educational Seminars.
