Long Island Muslim Society

LIMS Mission

Our Mission

LIMS is a fully member-supported organization. Although it was founded and is run by Muslims of Bangladeshi origin, Muslims of other ethnicities and countries now living on Long Island are also active participants in LIMS prayers and events. Daily prayers, Friday special prayers, holy Ramadan prayers, Eid prayers, children’s weekend religious studies, youth halaqa, after-school religious education programs and various other social programs and events hosted by LIMS, are open to all Muslims. The mission of the Long Island Muslim Society is to organize Muslims in the area and help them stay on the path dictated by the Holy Qur’an and practiced by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through educational and spiritual means. LIMS also gives priority to the children born into the Islamic faith to help them fully realize their spiritual heritage and to practice their religion accordingly.

Through its activities, LIMS also inspires non-Muslims to understand and appreciate the teachings of Islam. LIMS envisions its rightful place in the Abrahamic traditions and, as such, seeks understanding, friendship, and peace. Its goal is to promote education and continuous learning for the community through its various educational programs. The Long Island Muslim Society is also committed to work in concert with other Islamic organizations and establishments in North America to realize its goals. Through its own activities and in cooperation with other Islamic organizations, LIMS seeks to forge interfaith understanding, good will, and peace with other non-Islamic entities.
