LIMS Milestones of Achievement & Growth
August 4, 1989: The Long Island Muslim Society, Inc. was registered.
April 26, 1990: An Ad-hoc committee formed.
December 9, 1990: Adoption of LIMS constitution and By-Laws. Executive Committee elected.
June 1991: Weekend Qur’an classes for children started in a rental space on Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown.
November 29, 1991: LIMS was granted the status of a 501 (C) (3) Not-forprofit, tax-exempt religious organization
December 1993: Purchased property on East Meadow Ave, East Meadow, and moved activities to this location.
July 1999: Purchased adjacent second property.
2002: Application filed with Town of Hempstead for building Islamic Center with a masjid.
2004: LIMS Logo was adopted, and the website launched.
May 2007: Masjid application was approved.
2008-2009: Construction started and completed.
2009: Town of Hempstead Supervisor, the Honorable Kate Murray, inaugurated the opening of the new masjid facility.
Fall of 2009: Privately financed Bangla School opened.
June 2010: Permanent Imam position created, and Imam appointed.
September 2011: LIMS hosted the “Remembrance & Resolve” to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 tragic events.
June 2012: Purchased another adjacent property and paved a parking lot.
Started the first LIMS Graveyard project in a NY Cemetery.
Purchased graveyard plots and completed allotment of plots in 2015.
Opened a Facebook account to engage in a cyber-social platform for community outreach.
Participated in the National Open Mosque Day: “Building Alliances ~ Bettering Communities” on August 19th .
Second floor construction permit was obtained from the Town of Hempstead and construction was completed by March 2021.
Created the online payment portal MOHID through a third-party service provider and set up online payment KIOSK in the masjid.
Introduced Zoom cyber social meeting platform for Fundraising, and Khatme Qur’an Program, in the month of Ramadan during COVID-19 pandemic.
Certificate of occupancy for the second floor was issued by the Town of Hempstead in March 2021, and LIMS began using its newly constructed a second floor for female congregants.
Introduced Maqtab Education Services Board of America (MESBA) curriculum based after-school boys’ Maqtab program Monday through Friday, 5-7 PM.
The second LIMS Graveyard project began in a New Jersey Cemetery and completed allotment of plots in 2024.
Appointed a Resident Islamic Scholar to build and strengthen educational and youth halaqa programs.
